  • Monte Cassino pilgrimages scheduled for May

    ST. MEINRAD – Saint Meinrad Archabbey’s pilgrimages to honor the Blessed Mother at the Monte Cassino Shrine have been scheduled for the Sundays in May.

    The pilgrimages begin with an opening hymn and a short sermon, followed by a rosary procession. The service ends with the Litany of the Blessed Virgin and a hymn. Speakers and topics for the pilgrimages are:

    • May 7, Brother Lorenzo Peñalosa OSB, Our Lady of Perpetual Help

    • May 14, Father Joseph Cox OSB, Mary, Our Mother

  • Sisters 150-year color run June 3

    FERDINAND – The Sisters of St. Benedict will host a color run on Saturday, June 3, as part of the their 150th anniversary. The run will begin at 8:30 a.m.  with registration tables located at Kordes Hall. The entry fee for those who preregister by May 31 is $35, which includes a T-shirt. Participants not wanting a T-shirt can enter for $25. Race-day registration is $40.

    This is a color run so participants should come prepared to be dusted with safe, non-toxic colored powder.

    St. John’s bake sale begins Thursday

     

    EVANSTON – The board of education at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Evanston will sponsor the annual spring rummage and bake sale May 4-6. Hours will be 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 7 a.m. to noon Saturday. Lots of baked goods, clothes and miscellaneous items will be available.

    Organizers will also be serve soup and sandwiches. The church is located at 12308 E. County Road 1160 N. in Evanston.

    Deer Creek concert Saturday

     

    TELL CITY – Deer Creek Baptist Church will host an hour of praise music from Ryan Lynton, a singer-songwriter from Corydon Sunday, April 30, at 10:30 a.m. There will be a fellowship dinner following the service.   • Two ordained deacons at St. Meinrad

    ST. MEINRAD – Two seminarians received the order of deacon from the Most Rev. Charles Thompson, bishop of the Diocese of Evansville, at the Saint Meinrad Archabbey Church Saturday.

    The newly ordained deacons are Jeffrey Dufresne of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis and Brother Peduru Fonseka OSB of Saint Meinrad Archabbey. They are students at Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology.

    Others in their class will be or have been ordained deacons in their respective dioceses.

    Lent is also a time when Christians all over the world will give up certain foods and activities, and they focus more on Jesus dying on the cross. 

  • Marriage program to begin in May

    HAWESVILLE, Ky. – Coming this May, Union Baptist church will host a new marriage wellness program, Grace Marriage, and would like to invite the community to participate. Pastor Andrew Hunt said, “We believe marriage is a foundational institution of society and it has fallen on and times in our day.” The idea behind the program is to adopt a proactive approach to strengthening marriage.

  • Cannelton Gospel Tabernacle to host ministerial convention in April

    CANNELTON – The Cannelton Gospel Tabernacle Church will host the 33rd annual Ministerial Convention on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 7, 8 and 9. Services on Friday and Saturday begin at 7 p.m. Sunday’s service at 10 a.m. Friday’s speaker will be The Rev. Tommy Shutt, Saturday’s speaker will be The Rev. Tim Dotson and Sunday’s speaker is The Rev. Jeff Varner. 

    Also on Sunday, the church will be celebrating 50 years at the present location.

  • Holy Week Services at St. John’s

    EVANSTON – St. John’s Lutheran Church near Evanston will hold special Holy Week services April 9-16. 

    A Palm Sunday celebration of Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem will be held April 9, at 9:30 a.m. 

    A Maundy Thursday Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. April 13, with a meal served at 5:30 p.m.
