    Emmanuel Lutheran to hold yard, bake sale

     

    TELL CITY – Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Tell City will hold a yard and bake sale Saturday, May 7, from 8 a.m. to noon.

    The sale will take place in the basement of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, located at 12th and Pestalozzi streets.

    Bake sale items include cookies, pies, cakes and some canned goods.

  • Saint Meinrad monks launch new podcast

    ST. MEINRAD – The monks of Saint Meinrad Archabbey have launched a podcast, “Echoes from the Bell Tower.” The podcast’s first season begins with an episode about, logically enough, the bells of the Archabbey Church.

    Stories will share wit and wisdom from Benedictine monastery.

    Hosting the audio talk show are two young monks, Br. Joel Blaize, OSB, and Novice Tony Wolniakowski, OSB. Both are fairly new to the Benedictine monastery, having joined in 2015.

    Knits and Knots meeting May 12

     

    TELL CITY – Would you like to knit or crochet hats and scarves for homeless shelters, veteran hospitals and Head Start children?

    Take your needles or crochet hooks and they’ll supply the yarn.

    The next meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 12, at Tell City First United Methodist Church.

  • Monte Cassino pilgrimages set for Sundays in May

    ST. MEINRAD – Saint Meinrad Archabbey’s pilgrimages to honor the Blessed Mother at the Monte Cassino Shrine have been scheduled for the Sundays in May.

    Speakers and topics for the pilgrimages are:

    • May 1 – Novice Joshua Leeuw OSB, “Mary, Mirror of Charity”

    •May 8 – Brother Peduru Fonseka OSB, “Mary, Spouse of the Holy Spirit”

    •May 15 – The Rev. Meinrad Brune OSB, “Following Mary: The Marian Way for Everyone”

  • Organist to perform free concert April 17

    ST. MEINRAD ­– Organist Richard Spotts will present a free concert on Sunday, April 17, at 3 p.m. Central time at Saint Meinrad Archabbey Church, St. Meinrad.

    The program will feature works of the French composer Charles Tournemire (1870-1939) for the Easter season.

    Spotts, a native of Bucks County, Pa., and a graduate of Westminster Choir College in Princeton, has set out to perform and educate the public of Tournemire’s seminal work, with the ultimate goal of performing the complete 15-hour cycle in a recital series over 10 days.

    Little Pigeon Baptist gospel sing April 9

     

    CHRISNEY – Little Pigeon Baptist Church will hold a gospel sing April 9. The guest singers will be the Judith Montgomery Family.

    Guests are asked to take a covered dish. The meal will begin at 6 p.m. and singing will begin at 7 p.m. All are welcome.

  • Archabbey will offer confession times during Easter season

    ST. MEINRAD – Opportunities for the sacrament of reconciliation will be available at Saint Meinrad Archabbey Saturdays and Sundays during the Easter season.

    Confession will be available at the chapel in the Archabbey Guest House on these days:

    Saturdays, April 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30; May 7 and 14, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

    Sundays April 3, 10, 17 and 24; May 1, 8 and 15, 8:15 to 9:15 a.m.

    The opportunities for confession are part of the observance of the Jubilee Year of Mercy, as designated by Pope Francis.

    First United Methodist Easter Egg hunt Saturday at Schergens Center

    TELL CITY – Tell City First United Methodist Church will host its sixth annual Easter egg hunt Saturday, March 26, at 10 a.m., at the Schergens Center. Hot dogs, chips, drinks and desserts will be available for a free-will offering and all donations will go to a United Methodist Youth Home in Evansville. This event is for all children and families in the community as well as the county as a whole.

    Holy Week service schedule EUCC

    TELL CITY – Evangelical United Church of Christ will hold four special services to celebrate Holy Week.

    A Palm Sunday Service will be held March 20, at 10 a.m. in fellowship hall. A Maundy Thursday Service will be held Thursday, March 24, in the sanctuary at 7 p.m.

     

    Good Friday service will take place in the sanctuary March 25, at 7 p.m.
