• Jeanne and Philip Wittmer

    Jeanne and Philip Wittmer will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary June 10, 2016.

    They were married June 10, 1966, in Fort Wayne, where Phil was a college student at Purdue University and Indiana Institute of Technology and Jeanne was beginning her teaching career at East Noble High School in Kendallville.

    After having later lived in Howard County, in and near Kokomo, they retired to Perry County in 2007, where Phil was a graduate of the Tell City Class of 1963.

  • Vivian and Raphael DuPont

    Vivian and Raphael DuPont of Tell City, will celebrate their 75th wedding anniversary Sunday, June 5, with a family dinner at The Patio Restaurant in Tell City.

    Raphael and the former Vivian Howell were married June 7, 1941, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Leopold.

  • Mr. and Mrs. James

    Joyce and Cletus James celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with a family meal.

    They were married at St. Augustine Church in Leopold May 12, 1956.

    The couple has four children, Denny and Doug James, Angela Gayle Howell and Missy Noble.

    They have eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

  • Mr. and Mrs. Rhodes

    Marilyn and Melvin Rhodes of Cannelton celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary May 14. They were married May 14, 1966 at St. Pius Church in Troy. Mrs. Rhodes is the former Marilyn Rudolph.

    The couple has three children, Molly Hall of Tell City, Mari (James) Hinton of Tell City and Lucy (Adam) Goffinet of Cannelton; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

    Melvin retired from Aleris, then Commonwealth, and works part time as a barber.

    Marilyn retired from Parker Hannifin.

    The family of George and Geneva Gilliland surprised the couple on the occasion of their 65th wedding anniversary with a cook-out and carry-in meal.

  • Anna and Danny Wardrip

    Mr. and Mrs. Danny Wardrip will celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary on April 26, 2016. They were married April 26, 1986, at First Baptist Church in Tell City. Mrs. Wardrip is the former Alma Shellenberger.

    Their son is Jeremy Wardrip of Tell City and their daughter is Samantha Wardrip, of Owensboro, Ky.

  • Thelma and Frederick Carter

    Frederick and Thelma (Burton) Carter celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary Jan. 26, 2016. Known to the world as “Bud and Toots,” they met at an ice skating party on Deer Creek in Jan. 1941.

    Bud graduated from Tell City High School in 1941 and crossed the ocean in 1944 in a brand new B-17 bomber, named “The Joker.” Bud flew 35 missions as tail gunner out of Foggia, Italy with the 15th Air Force on The Joker. He finished World War 2 military service stateside.

  • Roberta and John Wittman

    Mr. and Mrs. John O. Wittman of Evanston will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Dec. 12, at St. John’s Lutheran Church fellowship hall in Evanston, with an open house from 1 to 4 p.m.

    John and the former Roberta (Bertie) Zimmerman were married Dec. 11, 1965, in a candlelight service at St. Peter’s E&R Church, in Lamar. They are the parents of two children, Cheryl (Steven) Southwood and Tina (Michael) DeVillez, both of Evanston. They have three grandchildren, Hayleigh and Allyson Southwood and John-David DeVillez.

  • William and Carolyn Coomer

    Mr. and Mrs. William and Carolyn Coomer announce their 50th wedding anniversary on Friday Nov. 20.

    Bill and Carolyn were married in 1965 by Rev. Rose at the Rome Methodist Church, in Rome, where Bill was born and raised. He is the son of the late Joseph and Mary Coomer.

  • Eula and Clyde Smith

    Eula and Clyde Smith of Tell City will celebrate their 65th anniversary Nov. 19. The couple will have a dinner at Oakwood hosted by their family.

    The Smiths were married Nov. 19, 1950, at Evangelical United Church of Christ. Eula is the former Eula Malone.

    They have two children, Becky (Steve) Yadack of Owensboro, Ky. and Mary (Raymond) Lock of Tell City. They have three grandchildren, Ray Lock, Rachel Fortwendel and Melissa Evans. They also have three great-grandchildren, Ben Fortwendel, Ethan Evans and Erin Evans.
