  • Strassell receives Eagle Scout Award

    DEERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio – Boy Scout Michael Thomas Strassell of Troop 21 in Deerfield Township, Ohio, was recognized at a special court of honor Jan. 11 for achieving the Eagle Scout Award.

    The award is a Boy Scout’s highest honor and only 4 percent of Boy Scouts achieve the goal.

    Michael has been working toward this goal since first grade.

    According to his family, he has always been conscientious, honest, fair, kind and sensitive.

  • Sherman completes military training

    FORT MEADE, Md. – Air Force Airman Jennifer K. Sherman recently graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

    She completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills and earned four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

  • Campbell earns service award

    Carter recently recognized Master Trooper Thomas Campbell for achieving 30 years of service to the Indiana State Police.

    Campbell is a 1979 graduate of Rivet Catholic High School in Vincennes and graduated from Vincennes University in 1981 with a degree in law enforcement. Campbell joined the state police in 1983, graduating as a member of the 41st Recruit School. He was assigned to the Jasper District to patrol Spencer County.

  • State police announce promotion, service awards

    JASPER – Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas Carter promoted First Sgt. Greg Ashby to the rank of lieutenant Feb. 16 to serve as the district commander for the Jasper Post.

    Ashby is a native of Orange County and a 1988 graduate of Springs Valley High School. After high school, Ashby served his country for seven years in the United States Marines Corps, with six months served in Operation Desert Storm.

    In 1995 Ashby earned an associate’s degree in law enforcement from Vincennes University.

  • Smith graduates Air Force basic training

    TELL CITY – Air Force Airman Steven W. Smith graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio, Texas.

    Smith completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

    Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

  • Baker earns EKU honors recognition
  • Mayfield earns honors

    Stephanie Robinson Mayfield of Tell City was recently honored for her academic performance at Vincennes University at Jasper.

    She was named to the school’s dean’s list and was also accepted into the nursing program.

    Mayfield is a graduate of Perry Central High School and lives in Tell City with her husband, David Mayfield and their daughter, Arianna.

  • Smith completes Air Force basic training

    SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Air Force Airman Steven W. Smith graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

  • Lambert graduates Marine basic training

    CANNELTON – Pvt. Jared M. Poehlein Lambert graduated from the United States Marine Corp. basic training Sept. 13.

    He earned his marksman medal and eagle, globe and anchor insignia. He is currently stationed at Camp LeJuene, N.C., for marine combat training. He graduated mid-October.

    Lambert is the son of Leisa Poehlein and the grandson of Mary Ann and Walter Lambert and the late Gordon and Birdine Poehlein. Leisa and Jared would like to thank all those who have kept them in prayers and for the support to attend his graduation.

  • Jarboe recognized for 10 years of service for K of C Insurance

    PERRY COUNTY – Tim Jarboe, a field agent for the Knights of Columbus Insurance – Clint Spaulding Agency, was recognized for his 10 years of service to the agency recently.

    His territory covers those southern Indiana councils including Tell City, Corydon, St. Meinrad, Santa Claus, Ferdinand and the newly established council in St. Anthony.
