Achievements

PERRY COUNTY – Joan Eckerle Knies, Crisis Connection community education specialist, received her recertification as a Professional in Human Resources from the Human Resources Certification Institute effective until December 2012. She received her original certification in December 1994.

TELL CITY – First Lt. Wendy Freeman returned to Tell City following a 10-month deployment to Iraq with the U.S. Army Re-serves.
She was a member of the 367th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment stationed at Contingency Operating Base Basra, located in southern Iraq. She worked in the public-affairs office for the 34th Infantry Division of the Minnesota National Guard and later for the U.S. Army 1st Infantry Division. Freeman would escort various news media throughout southern Iraq.

LEOPOLD – The Perry Central FFA Forestry Team will compete in the State Forestry Career Development Event judging contest, Dec. 11 at Purdue University.
Team members are Callie Poehlein, Hillary Hubert, Crystal Peter and Kaitlyn Poehlein.
The team won this honor by placing sixth in the Area Career Development Event. Career Development Events are designed to encourage youth to learn all they can about a specific topic. They learn to identify forestry specimens. They must also complete a quiz on this topic.

FORT BENNING, Ga. – Pvt. Jakob A. Powers, formerly of Tell City, of B Company, Second Battalion, 19th infantry Regiment, completed Army basic training and infantry school in Fort Benning. He trained at the base from June 18 to Sept. 24 in Foxtrot Company. He will be based at Fort Bliss, Texas.
Power is a graduate of Daviess County High School and the son of Allan and Stephanie Powers of Utica, Ky., and the late Connie Wheatley. He has two brothers, Clint Duke and Austin Powers and two step-sisters, Taylor Kratzer and Kendall Powers.
