  • Local student performs with orchestra

    OWENSBORO, Ky. – Aaron Peter of Tell City was selected to perform with the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra for their Holiday Pops concert in December 2010.

  • Roberson named mini-grant recipient

    PERRY COUNTY – Mary Roberson has been named as the recipient of a mini-grant from Alpha Epsilon State of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. Delta Kappa Gamma is a part of the International Society of Key Women Educators.
    Roberson is the superintendent of Perry Central schools in Leopold. She is an active member of the Alpha Phi Chapter.
    She said she will use her $500 mini-grant to purchase an iPad that she will use in classroom walk-throughs and follow-up communication with teachers.

  • Etienne named finalist for Wells Scholarship

    TELL CITY – Ariel Etienne of Tell City was recently named as one of 57 finalists for the prestigious Indiana University Wells Scholarship.

  • Local Modern Woodmen members honor hometown hero for community service

    TELL CITY – Local volunteer Earla Williams was recognized for her hours of service to the community Dec. 12.
    Williams will be recognized for numerous activities through Modern’ Woodmen’s Hometown Heroes Program.

  • Knies earns her PHR recertification

    PERRY COUNTY – Joan Eckerle Knies, Crisis Connection community education specialist, received her recertification as a Professional in Human Resources from the Human Resources Certification Institute effective until December 2012. She received her original certification in December 1994.

  • Freeman returns home from Iraq

    TELL CITY – First Lt. Wendy Freeman returned to Tell City following a 10-month deployment to Iraq with the U.S. Army Re-serves.
    She was a member of the 367th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment stationed at Contingency Operating Base Basra, located in southern Iraq. She worked in the public-affairs office for the 34th Infantry Division of the Minnesota National Guard and later for the U.S. Army 1st Infantry Division. Freeman would escort various news media throughout southern Iraq.

  • 4-H holds celebration; honors youth, Leaders

    TELL CITY – Perry County 4-H members and leaders were honored Sunday, Nov. 14 during the annual Perry County 4-H Celebration in which the group enjoyed two movies, popcorn and cola floats.
    Members applied for awards and were selected based on their applications. Leaders were honored according to their tenure, said Extension 4-H Youth Development Educator Renate Jobst.
    The following were honored for specific project areas:
    Rhett Baumeister: Community Service, Forestry, Healthy Lifestyles, Leadership
    Ryan Baumeister: Forestry

  • FFA students to compete Dec. 11

    LEOPOLD – The Perry Central FFA Forestry Team will compete in the State Forestry Career Development Event judging contest, Dec. 11 at Purdue University.
    Team members are Callie Poehlein, Hillary Hubert, Crystal Peter and Kaitlyn Poehlein.
    The team won this honor by placing sixth in the Area Career Development Event. Career Development Events are designed to encourage youth to learn all they can about a specific topic. They learn to identify forestry specimens. They must also complete a quiz on this topic.

  • Tell City native elected Virginia Theatre president

    RADFORD, Va. – Wesley Young, son of Brenda Lee, of Bowling Green, Ky., and Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Young of Tell City, was recently elected president of the Virginia Theatre Association.
    This organization was formed in the 1970s to foster, encourage and assist in the practice and study of theatre on all levels and is a major advocate for the arts in Virginia.
    The election took place at the general business meeting during VTA’s annual conference in Reston, VA, Oct. 28-31.
