  • Sample appointed to Memorial staff

    JASPER – Emergency physician Stephen Sample M.D. was recently appointed to the Active Medical Staff at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center.

    Sample received his medical degree at University of Louisville School of Medicine and completed a residency in emergency medicine at San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Consortium in Texas. He is board certified in emergency medicine and a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians.

  • Brown participates in final navy exercise before deployment

    TROY – Navy Seaman Recruit Jessica L. Brown, daughter of Patricia A. Johnson of French Lick and Kent A. Brown of Troy, and other sailors assigned to the nimitz class aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman recently participated in a final sustainment exercise before the ship’s upcoming deployment.
    Truman departed Naval Station Norfolk along with embarked Carrier Air Wing 3 and 1st Combined Destroyer Squadron staff, joined with guided-missile cruisers USS San Jacinto, USS Gettysburg and guided missile destroyers USS Bulkeley and USS Mason for the exercise.

  • Gunselman joins Uebelhor & Sons staff

    JASPER – Luke Gunselman of Jasper has joined Uebelhor & Sons Chevy-Cadillac as a sales consultant.

    He graduated from Jasper High School and Vincennes University and lives in Jasper.

  • ISU announces spring dean’s list

    TERRE HAUTE – Indiana State University has announced its dean’s list for the 2013 spring semester. Students from Perry County recognized for academic achievement include Kelsie Bland, Ryan Henrickson and Justin Sabelhaus, all of Tell City.

    To be eligible for the dean’s list at Indiana State, students must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

  • Goffinet earns degree from Kentucky Wesleyan

    OWENSBORO, Ky. – Lauren Goffinet, a 2009 graduate of Tell City High School and the daughter of Chris and Darla Goffinet of Tell City, graduated summa cum laude from Kentucky Wesleyan College May 9.

  • Nine John Jones Auto Group employees earn GM awards

    SALEM – Nine individuals from John Jones Auto Group have earned the distinction of excellence in the GM Mark of Excellence Program.

    To become a Mark of Excellence recipient, a person must exemplify a high degree of dedication toward exceeding Customer Satisfaction expectations and meeting training requirements, while also increasing retail sales, labor and parts sales.

  • Military notes: Davis completes basic training

    COLUMBIA, S.C. – Army Pvt. Julie E. Davis has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
    During the nine weeks of training, Davis studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field-training exercises.

  • Wheatley completes basic training in Georgia

    COLUMBUS, Ga. – Army National Guard Pvt. Logan W. Wheatley has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning in Columbus, Ga.
    During the nine weeks of training, Wheatley received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, core values and traditions. Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experiencing use of various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman.

  • Buntin accepted into Alpha Phi Theta Chapter

    TELL CITY – Diane K. Buntin was inducted into the Alpha Phi Theta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana March 22.
    Buntin, from Tell City, is majoring in accounting and the daughter of Morris and Wilma Cail.

  • Germano completes weather-spotter course

    TELL CITY – Frank Germano of Tell City recently completed a Skywarn Spotter Training course offered in Jasper through the National Weather Service in Louisville, Ky. Germano, who said he has been interested in weather for many years, received a certificate and joins the ranks of civilian and law-enforcement spotters who report weather events, including severe storms and tornadoes, to the Weather Service.
