INDIANAPOLIS—Perry Central senior defensive lineman Spencer Wright was named to The Associated Press’ Class A all-state football team released Saturday and to the Indiana Football Coaches Association’s team released Monday.
Wright, 6-foot, 240 pounds, led the 7-4 Commodores in tackles with 68 this season, an unusual honor for a lineman.
He also made a team-high 6.5 sacks and forced one fumble.
“He was just so quick—he was very disruptive,” said Perry Central Coach Greg Gibson. “He did a good job taking away what teams liked to do. He took away their inside game.”
Wright was one of three defensive linemen named to the AP team and one of six named to the 40-man coaches team.
West Washington receiver Chad Thompson and Linton-Stockton quarterback Austin Karazsia were Perry Central opponents who were named to both teams.
Perry Central junior Austin LeClere received honorable mention at running back and punter on the AP team.
He was named to IFCA junior all-state team (for all non-seniors) as a punter for the second year in a row.
He averaged 35.0 yards per punt, same as last year, with a longest one of 46 yards.
