INDIANAPOLIS - Tell City senior Joey Woznicki has been named to the wrestling academic all-state first team by the Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association.

Woznicki competed in the 130-pound weight class for the Marksmen this season, compiling a 25-16 record and qualifying for the regional for the fourth time.

He ranks third among 134 in Tell City's senior class academically with a 3.956 grade-point average. He scored 28 on the American College Test.

To qualify for academic all-state, a wrestler must advance to the regional. Among regional qualifiers, the honor is based on GPA, college aptitude test scores, and a recommendation from the high school principal.

Woznicki was invited to the IHSWCA Hall of Fame banquet Sunday to accept his academic all-state certificate.

He plans to major in meteorology in college.

Other southwestern Indiana wrestlers on the 33-man academic first team were Tanner Babb and Connor Houchins of Reitz, Phil Behrens of Evansville Memorial, Cameron Betz of Jasper, Zach Smorch of Mount Vernon, and Alex Weinzapfel of Mater Dei.
