William Tell earns honors at constitution contest in Indianapolis

-A A +A

INDIANAPOLIS – Fifth-graders at William Tell Elementary School achieved an “excellent” ranking in a We the People elementary showcase May 9 at the Union Station conference center in Indianapolis.

The Indiana Bar Foundation hosted the competition for students to demonstrate their knowledge of the U.S. Constitution after a semester of study in their social studies classes.
“Many adults don’t know the actual content of the Constitution,” said Andrew Homan, program director for the foundation’s civics programming. “These fifth-graders impressed seasoned attorneys and civic leaders (who served as judges) with their depth and breadth of knowledge.”
The curriculum and preparation for the showcase teach the students skills in teamwork, critical thinking, public speaking and research as well as history. The showcase featured 12 teams from eight schools.
