Whitesville holds off Cannelton

CANNELTON - Brooke Powers made 15 spikes but Cannelton lost to Whitesville Trinity 25-15, 23-25, 25-18, 25-15 in volleyball Thursday.

Hannah Baur added 10 spikes and four blocks and Sarah Powers had nine spikes, including five kills, for the Bulldogs. Nakaa Myers made five spikes and two blocks.

Tora Walls made four blocks.

Myer served four aces and Baur added three.

Jaci Garrett made five digs.

Despite the loss, "we played a lot better than we did against Orleans," said Cannelton Coach Heather Daum. "We communicated better and we passed better."

Cannelton won the JV match 25-17, 23-25, 15-13 as Sarah Powers, Garrett, Whitney Nugent and Sammie James each made five spikes.

Garrett and Nugent each got two kills.

Myers served five aces and made five sets. Shy May made six sets and Mandy Cravens served four aces.

Cannelton, 0-5 in varsity and 2-3 in JV, will host New Harmony Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
