EVANSVILLE – A federal judge ordered a 90-day delay Tuesday in the pending execution of Roy Lee Ward. The Perry County man was scheduled to die next week for the 2001 murder of Dale teenager Stacy Payne.
U.S. District Chief Judge Richard L. Young granted a request by Ward’s attorneys, who want time to file a request to have the conviction reviewed by a federal judge.
Ward was convicted of raping and murdering Payne, a 15-year-old student at Heritage Hills High School.
