HENRYVILLE—Tell City sophomore Mason Waninger shot a 93 in the IHSAA boys golf regional at Champions Pointe course Thursday.
“Obviously he wasn’t real happy with his score, but he didn't play all that bad,” said Tell City Coach Keith Feldpausch. “He hit the ball well most of the day, but he had a few bad holes that hurt him.
“This regional had a really strong field and it was a good experience for him. I expect him to be back there the next two years and possibly advance farther with the way he has improved his game and I’m sure will continue to improve.
“He has a great work ethic and I’m really proud of him for the season he had.”
Jordan Griffin of Madison shot a 2-under par 70 for medalist honors. He was also one of five individuals to advance to state without being on one of the advancing teams.
Columbus North won the team title with 297. Floyd Central shot 301 and Jasper 302 to also advance to state.
Besides Jasper, other teams from the Jasper sectional competing were South Spencer, which finished 10th at 320, and Southridge, which finished 14th in the 18-team field at 331.
Besides Waninger, the other two individuals competing from the Jasper sectional Preston Van Winkle, who shot 85, and Corey Teaford, 88.
