TELL CITY—North Posey scored on its first four possessions in defeating Tell City 45-22 in PAC football Friday.

The Vikings’ Cameron Calvert rushed for 209 yards on 28 carries and scored touchdowns on runs of 3, 4, 2, and 18 yards.

North Posey outrushed the Marksmen 308 yards to 97 yards.

North Posey Coach Joe Gengelbach said, “Our offensive line is coming together. We are young and only have one senior (there). It has allowed our running backs to get to the second level, then it is up to them.”

After Calvert’s first touchdown run of 3 yards, the Vikings recovered an onside kick and drove the ball down the field 49 yards. Calvert rushed for 28 yards.

Tell City’s Trent Gunn had 218 all-purpose yards. He rushed for 91 yards, had a 93-yard interception return for a touchdown, and returned a missed field goal 34 yards.

Tell City Coach Don Hitz said, “We started out slow and gave up 21 points before we were able to get in the game.”

After a North Posey field goal, the Marksmen turned the ball over as the Vikings’ Jacob Melliff intercepted a pass at the Viking 29.

North Posey moved the ball to the Tell City 44 before having to punt.

The Marksmen trailed 24-0 in the first half, before Gunn threw a 71-yard halfback-option touchdown pass to Trent Benningfield.

Seven plays later Gunn intercepted a Viking pass and returned it 93 yards for a touchdown to pull the Marksmen within eight points of the Vikings, 24-16.

Gengelbach had high praise for Gunn. “He is a game breaker. He made plays tonight. We knew he would make plays. He is a major spark plug in that group of kids.

“Tell City played hard tonight. We were fortunate we got ahead tonight. We gave them chances to get back in the game and they took advantage.”

In the third quarter Calvert scored two more times for the Vikings, making the score 36-16.

He rushed for 41 of his team’s 62 yards on one drive and ran for 35 of 57 yards on the other drive.

In the fourth quarter, the Marksmen forced a Viking fumble that went forward. North Posey’s Jared Reidford picked it up and ran in for a touchdown.

After a Viking punt, Gunn ran around the right end for a 51-yard touchdown.

North Posey improved to 4-3 overall and 3-3 in the PAC. Tell City fell to 1-6 overall and 1-4 in the PAC.

Tell City travels to Gibson Southern Friday at 7 p.m.
