POSEYVILLE—North Posey’s trapping defense forced numerous turnovers as the Vikings beat Tell City 70-42 in PAC boys basketball Tuesday.
“They really took advantage of some of our turnovers with that 1-3-1 trap, and we couldn’t overcome those turnovers and those points they got off of them,” said Tell City Coach Brent Owen.
The Vikings also had a good inside-outside attack on offense with Michael Bender and Reed Gerteisen combining for 36 points.
Bender, a good set shooter, hit five three-pointers and finished with 22 points.
Gerteisen, a 6-foot-4 center, added 14 points.
The Vikings jumped to a 29-15 halftime lead and increased it to 50-26 with a strong third quarter.
Drew Mowery and Gant Miller led Tell City with seven points apiece.
Tell City fell to 5-15 overall, 0-7 in the PAC. North Posey improved to 6-14 overall, 3-4 in the conference.
These teams will meet again in the Boonville sectional Tuesday.
“I’m going to watch this tape a million times if I have to and we’ll be as prepared as we can possibly be,” Owen said of that matchup. “I know everyone’s going to call me crazy, but the most important thing is I still believe we can win a sectional and everyone in our locker room believes we can win a sectional.
“I just told them in the locker room it will be a heck of a Disney story when we win that sectional.”
First Tell City will conclude its regular season by hosting Pike Central Saturday at 7 p.m.
