Drivers approaching the intersection of Tell and 12th streets are being directed by a flagger and cones to the right as Indiana Department of Transportation workers repaint lane markings Friday morning. INDOT received calls from motorists who said a previous elimination of markings created a dangerous driving situation.
Beginning at Schiller Street in the southbound approach to the intersection, the workers added arrows designating one lane a left-turn or go-straight lane. At the intersection, another marking designates the right lane as right turn only. Police Patrolman Greg Linne was watching the intersection Friday afternoon and said the percentage of drivers making incorrect moves through the intersection had dropped, but some may have made turns they didn't intend simply because he was there. Some continue to drive straight through the right-turn lane, so drivers going straight should check their mirrors in addition to watching for cars approaching from the other directions.
