Understanding Hoosier National Forest trail-use permits

TELL CITY – The Hoosier National Forest requires a trail-use permit for horseback riding and mountain biking on its trail system. This program is authorized under the Recreation Enhancement Act, which allows for federal land-management agencies to charge modest fees for some recreation uses. 

Recreation fees are an investment in outdoor recreation. Current and future generations will benefit as 95 percent of the funds collected are reinvested in the trails, facilities and services that visitors enjoy, use and value.
