OAKLAND CITY—Wood Memorial scored multiple runs in five innings to beat Cannelton 13-6 in baseball Monday.
The Trojans outhit Cannelton 14-8 and had three extra-base hits.
Cannelton hit with them early, taking a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the first inning on Tyler Aud’s three-run homer, his second of the season.
“We hit the ball,” said Cannelton Coach Mike Garrett. “We were all over him (Wood Memorial pitcher Nick Powers) in the first two or three innings.
“We had our first six batters reach base. But we had some terrible baserunning.”
Ethan Herzog went 3 for 4 to lead Cannelton hitters. Aud went 2 for 4 and drove in four runs.
Cody Lawalin, the first of three Cannelton pitchers, took the loss. He walked three and struck out none in 22⁄3 innings.
Aud relieved him and struck out four and walked three before being relieved by Herzog in the sixth inning. Herzog struck out two and walked none.
Cannelton fell to 3-16 while Wood Memorial improved to 4-15.
The Bulldogs will visit Perry Central tonight at 7.
