WHITESVILLE, Ky.—Tell City pitchers had control problems in a 13-3 season-opening girls softball loss to Whitesville Trinity Monday.
The Raiders had nine hits but also took advantage of 10 walks and two hit batsmen.
Tell City starter Shannon Bryant walked two batters and hit one before being relieved by Alex Morrow in the first inning.
Morrow walked three and hit one in three-plus innings. Bailey Sandage relieved her and walked five in one inning.
The Marksmen had only three hits but put them together well. They rallied for three runs in the top of the second inning to pull within one of the Raiders.
Halee Lamb led off that inning with a double down the right-field line and advanced to third on a single to left by Sydney Goffinet.
Natalie Peter singled to score Lamb and send Goffinet to third.
A throwing error by the catcher on a stolen-base attempt by Peter allowed Goffinet to score and Peter to advance to third.
Peter then scored on Alex Morrow’s sacrifice fly to right.
Lauren Howard pitched a complete game for Trinity to get the win. She walked none and struck out three.
“She had a decent change-up,” said Tell City Coach Maggie Schuetter.
Tell City will visit Hancock County today at 5:30 p.m.
