WHITESVILLE, Ky. - Whitesville Trinity had only six baserunners but five of them scored as the Raiders beat Cannelton 5-1 in the first game of a baseball doubleheader Monday.
Tyler Aud pitched a complete game for Cannelton, giving up only three hits and one walk and striking out six.
His teammates committed only two errors, but both of them figured in Trinity's scoring.
The Raiders scored two runs in the first inning on a single, a walk and a throwing error.
They added three runs in the third inning on an error, two singles, and two fielder's choice grounders.
Cannelton scored its only run in the third inning. Stephen Lane singled, advanced to second base on a passed ball, and scored on a single by Aud.
The Bulldogs had four hits for the game.
They outhit Trinity 12-4 in the second game but lost 7-5 as their pitchers had control problems.
Cannelton pitchers Lane and T.J. James combined to walk four and hit four batters in four innings (the game was scheduled for five innings but Trinity did not bat in the bottom of the fifth).
Lane pitched the first 31?3 innings, walking three, hitting two batters and striking out none.
Ethan Herzog went 3 for 4 with a double to lead Cannelton hitters. Justin Dooley went 2 for 4 with a double and Dillon Powers and Spencer Herzog each added two singles.
Trinity improved to 3-13.
The Bulldogs' doubleheader at New Harmony was rained out Saturday and had not been rescheduled at press time.
Cannelton, 1-15, will play a doubleheader at Washington Catholic Saturday at 11 a.m.
