Local police officers and sheriff’s deputies gathered recently at the former Tell City Junior School practice field for a refresher course on making traffic stops. Using modified firearms that shoot small plastic balls with enough force to leave bruises, officers alternated roles of police and motorists to hone their skills on approaching cars during routine and high-risk stops. Indiana requires the training each year. Above, Sheriff’s Deputy Richard Kratzer plays the role of an irate motorist who exits his vehicle after a mock traffic stop.
