Tom Ellsworth to speak at Mt. Zion Christian Church Sunday

SANTA CLAUS – Mt. Zion Christian Church in Santa Claus will continue its celebrations for its 175th anniversary homecoming Sunday at the church.
Pastor Tom Ellsworth of Bloomington will deliver the morning message and the sermon theme will be “Celebrating the Past; Looking forward to the Future.” Worship Services start at 10 a.m. Mt. Zion Christian Church is 2 miles south of Santa Claus on Indiana 245.
There will be special gospel music in the afternoon featuring The Woodsmen Quartet of Batesville. They will be in concert starting at 1 p.m. There will be a carry-in dinner directly after worship services in the shelter house. Meat, drinks and tableware are furnished and those attending are asked to take a favorite covered dish or dessert.
Ellsworth is a descendent of the Conner family, who were some of the charter members of Mt. Zion Christian Church in the 1820s. The church was established on land donated by John R. Conner in the early 1830s. The church was originally known as Conner’s Chapel.
Tom and Elsie Ellsworth have served with the Sherwood Oaks Christian Church in Bloomington since January, 1981. In the past 29 years, the congregation has grown from 80 to 2,800 and transitioned through a building fire, relocation and four building programs.
Ellsworth has served as the NACC president for the 2001 Tampa convention and holds degrees from St. Louis Christian College and Cincinnati Christian University. He is co-author of the book “Preaching James” and author of Standard Publishing books “Beyond Your Backyard,” “It’s Your Move – On Board” and “It’s Your Move – Out Loud.”
In June, Ellsworth and his wife celebrated their 31st anniversary. They have two married daughters, Emily and Matt Crum and Rebekah and Errek Suhr and one granddaughter. Ellsworth is a native of Huntingburg, where his parents, Tom and Midge Ellsworth, still reside.
