FORT BRANCH—Gibson Southern scored two runs without a hit in the fourth inning and edged Tell City 3-2 in PAC girls softball Thursday.
A walk, an infield throwing error, and an outfield error produced the Titans’ runs that inning.
They scored their first run in the second inning on a bases-loaded squeeze bunt.
They tried another squeeze bunt later in the game. But Tell City pitcher Josalyn Ress fielded it with her bare hand instead of her glove and was able to cut down the runner at the plate.
Ress pitched a four-hitter but took the loss due to the fourth-inning unearned runs.
Tell City had three hits, all for extra bases.
Ress hit a solo homer, her fourth of the season, over the fence in the sixth inning.
Courtney Cain doubled in the fifth inning, advanced to third on a ground out, and scored on an illegal pitch.
Lauren Goffinet also hit a double for the Marksmen.
Tell City lost a home PAC game to Forest Park 8-1 Tuesday.
Amanda Braunecker pitched a three-hitter for Forest Park, striking out eight and walking one.
Tell City scored its only run in the sixth inning on walks to Leslie Poole and Paige Gelarden and singles by Kyli Smithson and Goffinet.
Ress pitched a complete game for Tell City, giving up seven hits and three walks and striking out seven.
Tell City, 7-6 overall and 1-4 in the PAC, will host Hancock County today at 5 p.m.
