TELL CITY - Submissions to sesquicentennial time capsules to be sealed and buried this month are due by Wednesday, Aug. 13. The two concrete vaults being used as time capsules aren't large, but there is still some room for letters and photos.
"We've got a great selection of items about Tell City but a little space remains," News Editor Vince Luecke said. The only items being accepted are letters and photographs that can be bundled together tightly.
"It's going to take some creative packing but we're going to place as much as we can inside," Luecke said.
The News and Crawford Family Memorials are sponsors of the project.
In addition to personal letters and photographs, copies of sesquicentennial special sections, including a 2008 program guide and Schweizer Zeitung are being included in the collection, as are this week's newspapers, proclamations by public officials, photographs and memorabilia.
The capsules will be buried in City Hall Park, perhaps as soon as Aug. 18, and won't be unsealed until the city's bicentennial in 2058.
To make a contribution, stop by The News between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
No new items can be accepted after Aug. 13.
The News will announce a date for sealing and burying the capsules when a date is set.
The public will be invited to witness the sealing.
