EVANSVILLE - Tell City's wrestling team usually scores well in the lower weight classes. But the Marksmen were shorthanded there Saturday and they went 0-5 in Reitz's round-robin tourney.
They lost 75-0 to Castle, which is ranked eighth in the state, and 71-3 to Reitz, which is ranked seventh.
They also lost to Evansville Central 54-15, North Posey 48-30, and Mount Vernon 56-18.
"Mount Vernon has a good team too - they'll win the Big Eight (Conference)," said Tell City Coach Joe Litherland. "But we had too many holes and we didn't wrestle very well either."
A.J. Flynn had a hip injury and Neal Goffinet sprained an ankle Friday, so the Marksmen had to forfeit in the 103- and 112-pound weight classes.
Keith Patrick, their top 119-pounder, was still sidelined with an injury. And 140-pounder Chris Martin wrestled only one match because of a pinched nerve.
Dylan Froehlich led the Marksmen who were able to wrestle. He went 4-1 with two pins in the 215-pound weight class.
Justin Kleemann, who went 3-2 with one pin in the 152 weight class, was the only other Marksman with a winning record for the day.
Tell City, 15-14, will compete in the PAC tourney at Heritage Hills Saturday at 9 a.m.
Flynn and Froehlich are PAC No. 1 seeds and heavyweight Greg Batie is seeded No. 2.
