Tell City team qualifies for age-13-14 nationals

CARMEL—Tell City's age 13-14 runners placed third in the USA Track and Field Region 7 Junior Olympic Cross Country meet Saturday to qualify for the national championship.
Region 7 includes Indiana and Illinois. The national championships will be held Dec. 14 in San Antonio.
Tell City had qualified for the region meet by placing second in the state meet two weeks earlier.
The Indiana All-Stars based in Carmel won the region meet and Naperville, Ill., Track Club was second.
Except for Tell City, other teams competing were all-star teams that included runners from multiple schools.
Tell City’s team had only runners from Tell City-Troy Township Schools and were coached by Brian Beckort.  Team members are: ninth grader Seth Vaquero, eighth graders Leo Simpson, Thomas Simpson and Alex Ramsey, and seventh graders Elliot Reed, Chase Beckort, and Will Simpson. All except Vaquero ran on Tell City’s junior high team that finished 80-0 this year.
Reed placed 11th to lead Tell City in the 4-kilometer region race.
Leo Simpson finished 14th, Thomas Simpson 15th, Vaquero 20th, Ramsey 40th, Beckort 48th, and Will Simpson 56th.
Nate Kaiser placed third in the age-11-12 division 3K race  to qualify for the nationals as an individual. Kaiser, a seventh grader, was a key member of Tell City's junior high team this year.
