BOONVILLE—Tell City scored two runs on a throwing error in the top of the 11th inning to nip Boonville 5-4 in baseball Thursday.
Tell City tied the score 3-3 with a run in the top of the sixth and neither team scored again until the 11th.
With one out in that inning, Reese Miller got an infield hit and Gant Miller walked.
Austin Paulin then hit a ground ball back to the pitcher that could have been an inning-ending double play.
But after turning to throw to second, the pitcher heard someone on his team yelling “third,” so he tried to throw to third but made a wild throw.
That allowed Reese Miller to score. Gant Miller also scored when the third baseman was unable to retrieve the ball cleanly.
Gant Miller’s run proved to be the winning one, as Boonville scored once in the bottom of the inning.
Tell City no-hit Boonville until the seventh inning.
But the Pioneers scored a run in the first inning on a walk, a wild pitch and two ground outs and two in the third on a hit batsman, a walk, a wild pitch, a ground out, and a squeeze bunt.
Gant Miller went 4 for 6 as Tell City outhit Boonville 12-4. Rhett Baumeister and Reese Miller each added two hits.
Austin Paulin drove in two runs.
Chris Schaefer pitched the last six innings for Tell City to get his fifth relief win of the season. He walked none, struck out two, and gave up no earned runs.
Tell City starter Hunter Rowe pitched five no-hit innings. He walked four and struck out two.
“Hunter and Chris threw really well,” said Tell City Coach Jason Wilkerson. “And we played error-free baseball for 10 innings (until committing one in the 11th).
“We hit the ball well all night. Even our outs were crushed.”
Tell City improved to 7-4 with its fourth straight win.
