FERDINAND—Logan Flannagan served 18 consecutive points as Tell City beat South Spencer 25-9, 25-8, 25-10 in the semifinals of the Forest Park volleyball sectional Thursday.
The Marksmen advanced to Saturday’s championship match against Mater Dei, the fourth year in a row those two have met in the finals.
The Marksmen were never really threatened Thursday. After they forced a side out to start the first game, Flannagan served three consecutive points—the last on a power kill by Kassidie Hayes—to put them up 4-0.
Tell City led 16-9 when Flannagan’s serving turn came again and she served the last nine points of the game.
Hayes made power kills on two of those points and a well-placed dink for another kill. Emma Kohnert added a kill in that streak, but several of Flannagan’s serves were unreturned.
Flannagan then served the first nine points of the second game despite South Spencer’s again calling a timeout during her serving turn to try to break her momentum.
Hayes made a kill on the third point of that game but again most of the serves were unreturned.
Flannagan added four more points in the third game to give her 28 for the match.
“She served well,” said Tell City Coach Dalonda Hayes. “Logan’s been doing a nice job of placing it between two people and doing a nice job of serving short or long.
“She’s had to play back row this year and she’s done a good job there too.”
Most of the Marksmen did play well there, as “I thought our passing was good,” said Dalonda Hayes. “So was our hitting and our setting. We played well as a team.”
Kassidie Hayes made 18 kills and Flannagan and Kohnert each added six. Natalie Peter had 25 assists.
Cassie Bryant made 15 digs and served three aces. Peter added 13 digs.
Tell City took a 15-13 record into the championship match.
