Tell City loses 2 softball games

TELL CITY—Tell City had two of its best hitting games of the season but lost in girls softball Monday and Tuesday.
The Marksmen had six hits in a 4-1 PAC loss to North Posey Monday.
They committed six errors, but only one of the Vikings’ runs was unearned.
Sydney Goffinet pitched a complete game for Tell City. She walked only one and struck out none.
“It was probably our best game of the season,” said Tell City Coach Maggie Schuetter.
The Marksmen had trouble putting their hits together after the first inning, though.
They scored their run in the first inning when Natalie Peter led off with a single to right field.
She was forced out at second on a grounder by Madison Schuetter. But Schuetter advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on Goffinet’s single to center.
Natalie Sanders hit a triple for the Marksmen in the fourth inning. But it came with two outs and the Vikings got the next batter out.
Tell City lost a road game to Crawford County 12-4 Tuesday but tied its second highest run total of the season.
The Marksmen again had six hits, with Schuetter, Peter, Jessie Wheatley, Shannon Bryant, Brenee Leibering and Goffinet each getting a single.
Schuetter drove in two runs.
Tell City also played strong defense, committing only one error.
Crawford County had the same number of hits as Tell City but took advantage of Tell City pitchers’ wildness.
Four Wolfpack runs scored on walks and two on wild pitches.
“Our pitchers are trying their hardest but they struggled today,” said Maggie Schuetter. “You can’t win a game when you walk in four runs and give up two more on wild pitches.”
Goffinet pitched the first 1 2⁄3 innings to take the loss. She gave up three hits and five walks and struck out two.
Tell City, 0-15 overall and 0-6 in the PAC, will host Boonville, ranked ninth in the state in Class 3A, today at 5.
