TELL CITY—Tell City dominated the rebounding at both ends to beat Cannelton 32-10 in eighth grade girls basketball Thursday.
The Marksmen built a 10-4 halftime lead as they scored all six of their second-quarter points on rebound baskets, including one possession on which they shot five times.
“We just don’t have any girls with height,” Cannelton Coach Josh Marshall said of his team’s rebounding problems.
Taylor Sumner scored four points that quarter and Emily Hagedorn scored the Marksmen’s other basket.
Sumner finished with 16 points and Jalynn Pruitt added eight.
Nicole Harris led Cannelton with six points.
Tell City won the seventh grade game 26-6 as Mackenzie Fulton scored eight points, Makaylee Buntin six, and Taylynn Smith four.
Caressa Sloss scored all six of Cannelton’s points.
Tell City also swept two games with Southridge Tuesday, winning the eighth grade game 32-23 and the seventh grade game 26-20.
Madison Mathena scored 13 points for Tell City in the eighth grade game. Pruitt and Sumner each added four.
Morgan Schuetter scored 11 points and Rachel Malone 10 for Tell City in the seventh grade game.
Tell City, 4-8 in the eighth grade and 4-7 in the seventh grade, is off until Jan. 3.
Cannelton will visit Rock Creek Academy Friday at 5 p.m.
