TELL CITY—Tecumseh scored 15 points in overtime to beat Tell City 63-55 in PAC girls basketball Thursday.
“We played really well,” said Tell City Coach John Lyons. “But we made a few key turnovers (in overtime) and they hit some key shots.”
Tecumseh had trouble hitting three-point shots most of the game against Tell City’s aggressive man-to-man defense. “We got out and played hard,” said Lyons.
The Braves were 3 for 21 from three-point range. But the three they made all came in the fourth quarter to help send the game into overtime.
Tell City center McKenzie Hayes fouled out with about two minutes left in overtime. She had played the entire game to that point and had 24 points and 16 rebounds.
Mariah Alvey added a season-high 14 points for the Marksmen.
She hit 5 of 8 shots from the field, including 3 of 4 from three-point range.
Kyli Smithson had four assists and two steals for Tell City.
Tell City outshot Tecumseh from the field 43.8 percent to 32.8 percent.
But turnover differential hurt the Marksmen, as it has much of the season. Tecumseh committed only seven turnovers while the Marksmen had 19.
The Braves edged the Marksmen in rebounds 33-32.
Haley Shawhan, a 5-foot-10 junior center, led Tecumseh with 23 points and 12 rebounds.
Tell City fell to 0-7 overall and 0-2 in the PAC. Tecumseh improved to 4-4 overall, 2-2 in the conference.
Tell City will play South Spencer in the PSC Holiday Classic tonight at 7:45 at Tell City.
