TELL CITY—Trent Zuelly went 4 for 4 as Tell City nipped North Posey 7-6 in PAC baseball Saturday.
Gant Miller, Casey May and C.J. Rowe each added two hits for the Marksmen and Austin Paulin drove in two runs.
Tell City outhit North Posey 13-7, but the Vikings took advantage of seven walks to build a 5-4 lead with three runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Freshman left-hander Reed Goffinet entered the game that inning with one out and the bases loaded but escaped further damage.
“He came in in a tough situation and shut them down,” said Tell City Coach Jason Wilkerson.
Goffinet also pitched the next two innings, giving up only one run, to earn his first varsity win. He struck out two and walked two.
Chris Schaefer pitched a scoreless seventh inning for a save. He struck out one and walked none.
Floyd Central, ranked No. 1 in the state in Class 4A, proved that ranking was no fluke in an 11-0 win over the Marksmen Tuesday.
The Highlanders, who improved to 19-0, had only eight hits but took advantage of three Tell City errors “and a couple of balls that were hit that we should’ve caught in the outfield but we did not track very well,” said Wilkerson.
Freshman Hunter Rowe pitched the first four innings for Tell City, giving up only one walk and striking out none.
“I thought he threw a very quality ballgame against the best team he’ll face this year,” said Wilkerson.
Rhett Baumeister pitched a scoreless fifth inning, giving up no hits or walks and striking out two.
Zuelly, Paulin and Drew Mowery each had one hit for Tell City.
Zuelly has 10 hits in his last 15 at-bats. “He’s abso-lutely in a zone right now,” said Wilkerson.
Tell City, 6-6, will host Washington 5:30 p.m. Friday.
