Tell City defeats Evansville Central, Tecumseh

TELL CITY—Loren Braunecker, Charissa Lahee and Bailey Powell each won two individual events as Tell City trounced Tecumseh 132-38 in girls swimming Thursday.

Braunecker won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:15.13 and the 100 free in 1:01.19.

Lahee won the 50 free in 28.58 seconds and the 100 breaststroke in 1:26.77.

Powell took the 200 individual medley in 3:07.03 and the 500 free in 6:27.58.

Powell, Samantha Allen, Sydney Goffinet and Derrian Zabel won the 400 free relay in 4:49.83.

Braunecker, Elizabeth Bishop, Lahee and Alexa Adams won the 200 medley relay in 2:22.54.

Those same four girls also won the 200 free relay in 2:01.76.

Bishop won the 100 butterfly in 1:24.11 and Alex Morrow took the 100 backstroke in 1:27.95 as the Marksmen won every event except diving, which they did not enter.

Bishop took second in the 100 breast in 1:30.49.

Madison Schuetter placed second in the 200 IM in 3:15.05 and in the 100 free in 1:12.52.

Other Tell Citians placing second were Zabel in the 200 free in 2:32.64 and Sydney Brown in the 500 free in 6:49.70.

Marksmen placing third were Kayla Morrow in the 200 free in 3:21.78, Adams in the 50 free in 34.21, Goffinet in the 100 free in 1:13.26, Claire Bishop in the 500 free in 7:04.40, Brittney Thomas in the 100 back in 1:46.72, and Cassie Bryant in the 100 breast in 1:39.73.

The Marksmen won only four of 12 events against Evansville Central Tuesday but used their depth to beat the Bears 96-80.

Lahee won the 50 free in 28.71 and the 100 free in 1:02.64.

Braunecker won the 200 free in 2:18.44 and took second in the 500 free in 6:12.48.

Powell was second in the 200 free in 2:29.07 and third in the 500 free in 6:34.16.

The Marksmen swept the top three places in the 100 breast. Elizabeth Bishop won it in 1:30.96, Bryant was second in 1:38.81, and Schuetter third in 1:40.29.

They also swept the top three in the 50 free, with Zabel second in 29.62 and Kassi Peter third in 30.48.

Peter also took third in the 100 free in 1:06.89 and in the 200 free in 2:39.76.

Morrow placed second in the 100 back in 1:33.06 and Adams was third in 1:36.86.

Claire Bishop placed second in the 200 IM in 3:14.28 and Schuetter was third in 3:24.13.

Elizabeth Bishop took third in the 100 fly in 1:27.22 and Claire Bishop was third in the 500 free in 7:04.40.

“The team did great,” said Tell City Coach Angie Spinner of the two meets. “We are gearing up for PAC and I must say the team is very positive. Several people on the team told me they would swim whatever I need them to, in order to help out the team. They have such good attitudes and they are all trying very hard to improve their strokes.”

Tell City, 4-7 in dual meets, will compete in the PAC meet at Tecumseh this week. Swimming trials start tonight, with diving trials at 9:15 a.m. Saturday and finals in all events at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
