JASPER—Nick Bower and Justin Peter each placed fifth in one individual event to lead Tell City to fifth place in the 11-team IHSAA boys swim sectional Saturday.
Peter set a personal record as he swam the 100-yard backstroke in 1:00.21 for his fifth-place finish.
Bower swam the 50 freestyle in 23.77 seconds, his first time under 24 seconds.
Teammate Trevor Nelson placed eighth in 24.00, also a personal best.
Bower, Nelson and Peter were also part of the Marksmen’s fourth-place 400 free relay team, joining Greg Clayton to swim it in 3:38.17.
“Our relays swam exceptionally well,” said Tell City Coach Mike Page. “That was our first time under 3:40.”
Nelson, Bower, Clayton and Jerry Ammon placed fourth in the 200 free relay in 1:41.02.
Taylor Maddle, competing in his first varsity meet for the Marksmen after moving back to Tell City from Gibson Southern in January, placed sixth in diving with 313.80 points.
Logan Bolin was 12th with 236.00 points despite one failed dive.
“That didn’t help him any,” said Page. “But they’re both just sophomores, so they learned a lot. I think next year we’re going to try to have a diving meet (during the regular season) because now the only time they dive 11 dives before the sectional is in the conference (each diver makes only six dives in regular-season swim meets).”
Clayton placed eighth in the 500 free in 5:44.43 after swimming it in 5:38.46 in the trials last Thursday.
He took ninth in the 200 free in 2:03.57.
Nelson placed ninth in the 100 free in 53.34 and Bower placed 11th in 54.96.
Peter was 11th in the 100 butterfly in 1:05.63.
Jarrod Clayton, Corey Burris, Peter and Jerry Ammon placed ninth in the 200 medley relay in 2:02.13.
Tell City finished the season with a 16-26 record.
