Students miss state qualification, prepare for upcoming events

TELL CITY - The Tell City Marching Marksmen were "pretty excited" after their performance at semistate competition Saturday, according to assistant band director Natasha Edmondson. "They were pumped up."

The feeling that they'd put on the best show they could was retained by older members of the band, she said, even after they learned they would not advance to the state level.

"Some were OK with it because they knew they had a good show," she said. "Others were let down."

She was happy that the band went a step further than it did last year, advancing past regional to semistate competition.

"That was a step in the right direction," she said. "We really pushed the kids hard this year, and they responded well."

In the performers' near future are preparations for basketball pep band, a Christmas concert whose date hadn't yet been determined and solo-and-ensemble contests scheduled to start in late January or early February.

Edmondson also said percussionists are working hard to prepare for winter drum line competitions and "we're trying to pull funds together that were not used for the marching season."
