Social studies, science and interdisciplinary teams take first place, move on to finals

TELL CITY – On April 22, the Tell City Junior Senior High School academic team competed in the Area Regional Competition at Bosse High School.

The competition included six rounds of 25 subject-specific questions. Schools were divided into classes based on high-school enrollment. Tell City competed in Class 3.

The competition included teams from high schools in Perry, Spencer, Warrick, Vanderburgh, Gibson and Posey counties.

The social studies team placed first in Class 3, answering 18 questions correctly – the highest score of teams in all classes at the competition – which qualified the team for the state competition May 10 at Purdue University.

Also placing first among all classes and qualifying for the state meet was Tell City’s interdisciplinary team, which scored 17 questions correctly. The interdisciplinary category included questions on a variety of subjects.

Tell City’s science team also placed first in class 3 and qualified for the upcoming state competition with an overall score of 17 out of 25.

Tell City also claimed award-winning performances from the fine arts, English, and math teams. The fine arts and English teams placed second in class 3, while the math team placed third.

Tell City’s teams scored the highest in Perry County in all areas of the academic competition. They join 10 other teams in the state that will send three teams to the Academic Bowl State Competition.

The last time three teams from Tell City qualified for the state competition was in 2007, when the math, fine arts and interdisciplinary teams competed.
