-A A +A

WASHINGTON—Tell City went 2-1 at four of five positions to place third in Washington’s eight-team boys tennis tourney Saturday.
Washington won with 42 points. Evansville Central scored 39 and Tell City 29.
Tell City won 9 of 15 total matches.
“The heat was a factor as we played in the later rounds, but our team handled it well, and played through it,” said Tell City Coach Nick Weyer. “There were some great teams that we faced and we were challenged, but we worked hard and persevered.
“One example is that our No. 1 doubles team (Luke Thomas and Jeff Yeung) was down 1-5 in the first set of their final match and went on a tear to win 7-6, 6-0.  When we could have folded, we dug in and played as hard as we could.”
Jake Swihart won his first and third matches in No. 1 singles and Zach Fisher won his second and third matches in No. 2 singles.
Thomas and Yeung lost a long match to Washington 3-6, 6-2, 10-8 (a super tie-breaker played in a lieu of a third set) in their first-round match.
But they came back to beat Mount Vernon and North Posey in straight sets.
Jackson Ramsey and Chandler Lacy also lost in a super tie-breaker in their first-round No. 2 doubles match to North Posey but came back to beat Mount Vernon and Boonville handily.
Kevin Yeung beat Matt Disinger of Boonville 6-1, 6-2 in the first round of No. 3 singles but lost his next two matches.
Tell City beat Forest Park 4-1 in a home dual match Monday to improve to 2-1 in the PAC.
Thomas and Jeff Yeung prevailed over Matthew Nonte and Collen Hochgesang 7-5, 6-7 (7-2), 7-6 (7-5) in a marathon No. 1 doubles match.
Swihart had to survive one tie-breaker to beat Matt Miller 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 in No. 1 singles.
Fisher beat Blake Emmert 6-4, 6-0 in No. 2 and Kevin Yeung beat Dillon Hasenour 6-1, 6-2 in his first dual match at No.3 singles.
Forest Park’s David Lusk and Aaron Meyer beat Ramsey and Lacy 6-1, 6-1 in No. 2 doubles.
Tell City will visit Northeast Dubois today at 4:30 p.m.
