JASPER—Mason Waninger qualified for the regional for the second year in a row as he led Tell City to fifth place in the 10-team boys golf sectional at Sultan’s Run Friday.

Tell City shot 349, just nine strokes behind fourth-place Springs Valley and three strokes ahead of sixth-place Southridge. Perry Central finished 10th with 425.
Jasper won with 303, South Spencer was second with 321, and Heritage Hills third with 323.
Tell City’s finish was its best in 12 years, since taking third in 2002.
The top three teams and the top three individuals not on those teams qualified for the regional, which will be held at Champions Pointe course in Henryville Thursday at 7 a.m. Perry County time.
Tyler Gray of Southridge shot 71, Carrolton Gray of Springs Valley 78, and Waninger 80 to earn the three individual berths.
Jacob Bartley of Jasper edged Gray for overall medalist honors with a 2-under-par 70.
Waninger, a junior, improved his score by three strokes from last year and was consistent from start to finish, shooting 40 on the front nine and the same on the back nine.
He birdied one hole, the par-5 13th.
Other Tell City scorers were Grant Bolin with 87, Damian Harney 90, and Jimmy Phillips 92.
Nic Pierrard led Perry Central with 95.
“We shot some pretty high scores today,” said Perry Central Coach Bill Dickerson. “It’s a little bit different course than we’re used to, but we shot 370 on the hill course (a tough one in French Lick) last week.
“We spent a lot of time on the driving range lately but we just didn’t strike the ball that well today. The putting wasn’t that bad—we just had trouble getting off the tee box.
“It was a beautiful day—conditions were good.”
Besides Pierrard, Perry Central’s scorers were Coby Aders with 98, Zach James 105, and Eric Schepers 127.
Team scores: Jasper 303, South Spencer 321, Heritage Hills 323, Springs Valley 340, Tell City 349, Southridge 352, Paoli 369,  Loogootee 399, Forest Park 405, Perry Central 425, Orleans no team score
