DUBOIS - Amber Walton drove in seven runs in the first two innings as Tecumseh beat Cannelton 30-0 in the first round of the Class A girls softball sectional Monday.

Walton hit an RBI single and a grand slam, her fourth homer of the season, over the left-field fence in the first inning as the Braves jumped to a 10-0 lead.

She drew two bases-loaded walks in their 13-run second inning.

"We should have been out of the first inning with only four runs," said Cannelton Coach Brian Garrett. "We had a dropped ball at first base that should have been the third out. Then two batters later Walton hit the grand slam."

Cannelton committed two errors in the first inning and five for the game.

The Bulldogs did make some nice defensive plays, though, including center fielder Leah Mascolo's running catch of a fly ball in the left-center gap to end the first inning.

"For never having played softball before (this season), Leah does a nice job in center field," said Garrett.

Tecumseh started ace pitcher Audra Sanders, one of the state's best.

She struck out all three batters she faced in the first inning, though Stephanie Posey hit two foul balls against her.

That may not sound like much of an accomplishment, but in one of Sanders' no-hitters she struck out all 15 batters and there were only three foul balls hit against her the entire game.

With the Braves leading 23-0 going into the bottom of the second inning, they brought in Marissa Feagley to pitch. She had no-hit Cannelton in the season opener April 5.

But Shy May and Hannah Baur each singled against her in the second inning Monday. Both runners moved up a base on a wild pitch with one out.

The next two batters struck out swinging, though, to end the inning.

The Bulldogs did not get another hit the rest of the way.

Posey pitched a complete game for Cannelton, striking out two and walking 14.

Cannelton finished the season 0-11.

Tecumseh, ranked third in the state, improved to 21-4 record.
