CORYDON—Elizabeth Kohnert made 29 kills as Tell City won an eight-team volleyball tourney Saturday.
The Marksmen also “served a lot better,” said Tell City Coach Dalonda Hayes.
Tell City beat Rock Creek Christian 25-8, 25-9, North Harrison 25-14, 25-21, and Austin 25-18, 25-5 in pool play.
The Marksmen then beat Corydon, the winner of the other pool, 25-14, 25-20 for the title.
Kohnert made 10 kills and three blocks in the championship match.
McKenzie Hayes added four kills and 15 assists. Josalyn Ress also made four kills and Hana Reed made seven digs.
Jamie Brinksneader served nine points, including two aces. Reed served three aces.
Kohnert made six kills against Rock Creek. Hayes added five kills, eight assists and four aces.
Reed made seven digs and served 14 points—five of them aces.
Kohnert made seven kills and Hayes five against North Harrison. Miranda Zuelly had six assists.
Reed served eight points that match. Leslie Poole made four digs and Brinksneader made four blocks.
Kohnert and Hayes each made six kills against Austin.
Kohnert also made five blocks and Hayes had six assists, four blocks and 10 points served (three aces).
Reed served 18 points (four aces). Zuelly had eight assists and Poole made six digs.
Tell City made 13 bad serves in a 20-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-13 loss to Forest Park Tuesday.
“It seemed like every time we’d get momentum going we’d miss a serve,” said Dalonda Hayes. “It’s just lack of concentration.
“One thing we did well was blocking.”
McKenzie Hayes made seven blocks, Kohnert six, and Ress four.
Kohnert also made 13 kills and 10 digs. Hayes and Ress each made five kills and Hayes had 13 assists and served three aces.
Forest Park won the junior varsity match 25-10, 25-20.
Devin Marchand made seven kills and Breanna Simpson added five for Tell City. Charissa Lahee had 32 assists and Amy Stillwell made four blocks.
The Rangers also won the C-team match 15-25, 25-22, 15-6.
Marchand made nine kills for Tell City. Stori Beard added eight kills and 11 digs and Lahee had 23 assists, 18 digs and seven ace serves.
Tell City, 7-8 in varsity and 3-5 in JV matches, will host Tecumseh tonight at 5:30.
