LEOPOLD—Tell City used balanced scoring and strong defense to beat Crawford County 46-21 to win Perry Central’s eighth grade girls basketball tourney Saturday.
“We played really good defense and saw the floor well—it seems like we see the floor better every game,” said Tell City Coach Mark Rothgerber.
“We pressed both games and did it well—we had good rotations,” added Rothgerber. “And we ran our offense well.”
Hannah Schaefer scored 11 points to lead Tell City.
McKenzie Hayes added 10 points, Lacy Briggs six, Stori Beard five, and Charissa Lahee four.
Tell City beat Tecumseh 34-22 in the first round of the four-team tourney.
Hayes scored 10 points that game. Schaefer added seven, Briggs six, Beard five, and Lahee four.
Perry Central lost both its games in the tourney, falling to Crawford County 25-15 in the first round and to Tecumseh 35-19 in the consolation game.
“Crawford County pressed us the whole game and we just couldn’t handle it—we had a lot of turnovers,” said Perry Central Coach Debbie Dauby.
Heather Hendricks had five points and five rebounds for Perry Central that game. Lynsay Goffinet added four points.
Against Tecumseh “the first half we were just outhustled,” said Dauby. “The second half we outplayed them but we were too far behind to catch up.”
Hendricks had eight points and five rebounds that game.
Ashley Graves added six points and five rebounds and Brooke Litherland grabbed six rebounds.
