MOUNT VERNON - Lauren Goffinet made eight blocks and Elizabeth Kohnert added six as Tell City beat Mount Vernon 25-21, 25-22 in volleyball Saturday.
"Lauren and Lizzie got a hand on everything," said Tell City Coach Dalonda Hayes.
Goffinet, Kohnert and Jamie Brinksneader each also made five kills. Julie Davis had 20 assists.
Goffinet made eight digs and Paige Gelarden added seven.
Davis served seven points, including two aces.
"We played really well together," said Hayes. "Our passing was good and our setting was good.
"Then 20 minutes later when we played again we just fell apart."
The Marksmen lost that match to Vincennes Lincoln 25-15, 25-13.
"They had good hitters and they had a great defensive specialist who got a hand on everything - we could not find holes," said Hayes.
Kohnert made six kills and Goffinet four in that match. Davis had 12 assists.
Catelyn Zuelly made five digs and Kohnert and Goffinet each added four.
No one made more than one block or served more than one ace for the Marksmen.
Tell City beat Pike Central 19-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-20 Tuesday as Goffinet and Kohnert each made 13 kills.
Leslie Poole added five kills and Davis had 27 assists.
Davis made 15 digs and Kohnert 14.
Davis served 12 points, Kohnert and Brinksneader nine apiece, and Goffinet eight. Davis and Goffinet each had two aces.
Tell City's junior varsity also beat Pike Central 25-13, 23-25, 15-14 as Megan Austin made six kills and four blocks.
Devon Lott and Josalyn Ress each added five kills. Hana Reed had six assists.
Reed, Jasmine Staggs and Courtney Young each made seven digs. Staggs served four aces.
Tell City lost both JV matches Saturday, falling to Mount Vernon 25-22, 23-25, 15-3 and to Vincennes Lincoln 25-18, 25-15.
Austin made eight kills and three blocks against Mount Vernon.
Jaylen Staggs also made eight kills. Ress and Samantha Zellers each made four digs and Cassidy Barnhill served two aces.
Jaylen Staggs made five kils and Austin four against Vincennes.
Ress made three digs and Brianna Simpson served two aces.
Tell City, 11-11 in varsity and 6-12 in JV, will visit Mater Dei tonight at 6.
