JASPER—Freshman Amanda Wagner placed second in one individual event and a relay to lead Tell City to third place in the 13-team Jasper girls swim sectional Saturday.

The Marksmen scored 200 points, just three behind second-place Southridge. Their finish was their highest in 10 years, since they won the sectional at Tell City in 1999.

Wagner set a personal record as she placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:10.74.

Bedford-North Lawrence senior Kayla Allen also beat her seed time to win that event in 1:09.99.

“She’s a senior and she’s the defending champion and she just swam a heck of a race,” Tell City Coach Mike Page said. “Amanda did too.”

Wagner, Chelsea Malone, Jessica Wagner and Erika Hauenstein placed second in the 200 free relay in 1:43.19.

Those same four girls placed third in the 200 medley relay but set a school record with their 1:53.94 clocking, a time faster than five champions of the state’s other 19 sectionals.

That broke the school record of 1:54.28 set by Kristen Mansfield, Beth Godthaab, Abby Lawrence and Tami Page in 1997.

Malone placed third in the 50 free in 24.78 seconds, just 10-hundredths of a second behind Beth Carlson’s school record set in 1987.

Amanda Wagner placed fourth in that event in 25.80.

Malone also took third in the 100 free in 56.10.

Hauenstein placed third in the 200 individual medley in 2:22.12 and in the 500 free in 5:42.51.

Freshman Hana Reed placed fourth in diving with 282.65 points.

That qualified her for the diving regional at Blooming-ton North Tuesday, but she did not place in the top 12 there.

C.J. Fentress, Jessica Ballman, Tiffany Davis and Bailey Malone placed third in the 400 free relay in 4:13.82.

Fentress placed seventh in the 100 free in 1:00.69 and the 200 free in 2:13.48.

Her times were faster than some of Saturday’s top six in each event, but after qualifying Thursday for the consolation finals she could move up no higher than seventh.

Bailey Malone was seventh in the 200 IM in 2:33.33 and eighth in the 100 breast in 1:18.63.

Davis placed eighth in the 500 free in 6:12.22 and Alyson Goffinet was 10th in 6:31.69.

Ballman took ninth in the 100 backstroke in 1:13.27 and Amber Fentress was 12th in 1:15.39.

Other Tell City scorers were Davis, 10th in the 200 free in 2:17.11; Jessica Wagner, 10th in the 50 free in 28.13; and Amber Fentress, 11th in the 100 butterfly in 1:24.96.

Tell City finished the season with a 27-9 record.
