TELL CITY—Tell City had 10 hits and Josalyn Ress struck out 10 as the Marksmen beat Southridge 7-5 in PAC girls softball Tuesday.
The Marksmen put the game away with a three-run fifth inning on four hits and two errors.
Ress hit a home run over the left-field fence leading off that inning.
She went 2 for 3 for the game. Miranda Zuelly had two doubles, Courtney Cain also had two hits, and Kyli Smithson hit a double.
Tell City batters recorded no strikeouts.
Ress pitched a complete game for the win. She scattered eight hits and walked one.
All five runs against her were unearned due to three Tell City errors in the second inning and two in the seventh.
Tell City lost its season opener to Princeton 10-0 Monday.
“Princeton was just a good ballclub and we made too many errors (three),” said Tell City Coach Dusty Beard.
Tell City had only two hits, two-out singles by Smithson and Hana Reed in the fifth inning.
Ress pitched all six innings for the Marksmen, giving up 13 hits and one walk and striking out four.
Six of the hits against her were infield ones, including a couple of bunts that the Marksmen did not field quickly enough.
All but two of the Tigers’ runs were unearned, thanks to the Marksmen’s errors and a third-inning passed ball.
The Marksmen will host North Posey Friday at 5:30 p.m.
