TELL CITY—For the first time in several years Tell City placed second in two relays at its own season-opening girls swimming relay meet Saturday.
Tell City finished fifth overall among seven teams in the meet, “but we were more competitive this year,” said Tell City Coach Mike Page.
Chelsea Malone, Amanda Wagner, Erika Hauenstein and C.J. Fentress took second in the 200-yard medley relay in 2:01.08.
Wagner, Hauenstein, Chelsea Malone and Bailey Malone placed second in the 400 individual medley relay in 4:40.67.
The Malone sisters and Hauenstein took third in the 150 backstroke relay in 1:35.52, just 52-hundredths of a second behind second-place Jeffersonville.
Chelsea Malone, Wagner, Hauenstein and Fentress placed third in the 200 stroke/free relay in 1:57.25.
Wagner, Jennifer Dinkel and Bailey Malone were third in the 150 breaststroke relay in 1:56.24.
The Marksmen also finished sixth in five relays.
The Marksmen swam their first dual meet of the season Tuesday at South Spencer and won 123-48, winning 10 of the 12 events and sweeping the top three places in four of them.
Hauenstein won the 200 individual medley in 2:33.32 and the 100 butterfly in 1:11.49.
She teamed with Wagner, Fentress and Chelsea Malone to win the 200 free relay in 1:50.70.
Chelsea Malone also won the 100 free in 57.05 seconds and teamed with Fentress, Alyson Goffinet and Tiffany Davis to win the 400 free relay in 4:26.03.
Wagner won the 100 breast in 1:14.90 and teamed with Jessica Wagner, Klyne Waninger and Bailey Malone to win the 200 medley relay in 2:19.46.
The Marksmen swept the top three places in the 200 free.
Fentress won it in 2:23.34, Davis was second in 2:31.03, and Goffinet was third in 2:31.66.
Goffinet won the 500 free in 6:50.69 and Davis took second in 7:01.01.
Jessica Ballman won the 100 back in 1:16.98, Amber Fentress placed second in 1:18.46, and Waninger was third in 1:28.66.
Bailey Malone placed second in the 200 IM in 2:38.80 and the 100 breast in 1:22.62.
Jessica Wagner placed second in the 50 free in 29.72 and the 100 free in 1:08.65.
Hana Reed placed second in diving with 122.25 points, just 1.00 point behind the winner.
Amber Fentress was second in the 100 fly in 1:22.30 and Waninger was third in 1:26.41.
Ballman took third in the 50 free in 30.02 and Dinkel was third in the 100 free in 1:15.72.
Tell City’s next meet is at home against Boonville Dec. 1.
