CANNELTON – Two people were injured, one seriously, Thursday night in a head-on collision a county sheriff’s deputy said was caused by a drunk driver crossing the centerline of Old Indiana 237.
Deputy Lee Chestnut, who came across the crash scene shortly be-fore 8:30 p.m., said Shawn Terry, 27, who lives in the Cotton Mill Apartments in Cannelton, faces charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and driving while suspended. Chestnut said Terry was traveling east when his Pontiac Montana traveled left of center and struck a Toyota pickup truck driven by Devin Guillaume, 19, of 244 11th St., Tell City.
The force of the impact spun Terry’s minivan around in the westbound lane and sent Guillaume’s truck crashing into a ditch. Guillaume had to be extricated from his vehicle by the Perry County Rescue Squad. He suffered a leg injury and a possible head wound and was flown to University Hospital in Louisville, Ky. He was listed in serious condition Friday morning.
Terry, who was able to exit his van and was found by Chestnut lying on the highway, was not seriously injured and was treated at Perry County Memorial Hospital, the deputy said.
Perry County EMS, Rescue Squad, Cannelton police and fire departments and Tell City police assisted at the scene.
