TELL CITY—Every player’s score will count in every match for Tell City’s golf team this season.

Most regular-season matches allow teams to play six golfers and count the best four scores. And most tourneys are play five, count four. But Tell City has only four boys on its roster.

“I had to have the guys on the team recruit another student to give us four,” said new coach Keith Feldpausch.

There are three juniors and one freshman on the team.

Logan Bolin is the only varsity starter returning from last year. He was the team’s third best scorer in the sectional last year and fourth best in the PAC.

“He’s just head and shoulders above everyone else,” said Feldpausch. “He wants to be good and he works hard on his game. He played a lot during the summer.”

Feldpausch said the other three team members, Seth Ward, Nathan Wood and Matthew Watts, are pretty even, though he might give Ward a slight edge for the team’s No. 2 spot.

Tell City finished 10-43 last year, including eighth in the nine-team PAC tourney and 11th in the 14-team Jasper sectional.

Feldpausch, who placed second individually in the sectional in 1996, said he doesn’t know anything about the Marksmen’s current opponents. But he hopes to improve on last year’s record.

To do so, “these guys have just got to keep working hard on every part of their game” said Feldpausch. “We’ve improved a lot since practice started and hopefully we can keep progressing.”
