PERRY COUNTY - This year's enrollment in Perry County schools is up only one-and-a-half students over last year, according to their superintendents.
Superintendent Al Chapman said 253 students were in Cannelton City Schools buildings Sept. 18, the state's official "count day" for this year. While the student population may continue to fluctuate as people move into or out of the district, state funding is based on that number. Chapman said the figure is two students lower than he reported last year.
Ron Etienne, Tell City-Troy Township School Corp. superintendent, reported 1,507.5 students were enrolled in that district as of count day, one more than last year.
Perry Central Community School Superintendent Mary Roberson said she reported an enrollment of 1,068.5, which is 2.5 more students than last year.
Each kindergartner is counted as half a student in the annual reports.
