NEW HARMONY - Cannelton built a 37-20 lead early in the second half and held on to beat New Harmony 61-53 in boys basketball Friday.

Chase Gerber scored 10 points and Tyler Aud added nine in the Bulldogs' strong first half.

"The first half we had good ball movement and were doing the things we need to do on offense," said Cannelton Coach Brian Garrett.

"The second half we started dribbling the ball too much and we had kids taking the ball one-on-three. If it's one-on-three, obviously two people have to be wide open.

"At times when we get a lead we don't know how to play with it. We don't have court awareness at times."

Still the closest the Rappites ever came in the second half was six points.

Cannelton guard Tyler Aud had a cold shooting night from the field (4 for 19, including 3 for 12 from three-point range) but still led the Bulldogs with 16 points.

Chase Gerber came off the bench to add 14 points and 10 rebounds, his second consecutive double-double.

Ethan DuPont added nine rebounds as the Bulldogs edged the Rappites 37-35 in that category.

Aud made four steals and Justin Dooley added three. Michael Purcell had four assists.

Reserve Robert Perry led New Harmony with 12 points.

Justin Williams added 10 points and eight rebounds. Isaac Field also grabbed eight rebounds.

With their third straight win the Bulldogs improved to 5-8, their most victories in four years.

New Harmony fell to 1-14.

Cannelton will visit Hancock County Friday at 6 p.m. There will be no junior varsity game, as the varsity boys contest will be followed by a girls game between the two schools.
