Stepping Stones accepting new students

LEOPOLD — Stepping Stones Preschool, located in the St. Augustine Catholic Church Parish Hall basement, is accepting registrations for the 2013-14 school year. The preschool seeks to provide a positive educational experience for 3- and 4-year-olds, preparing them for elementary school.
Each week your child will be introduced to a new letter of the alphabet. With each letter will be a theme involving games, hands-on activities, arts and crafts, songs and writing activities to enrich your child’s cognitive, physical, creative and social-emotional development. Each month children will be introduced to a new color, shape and number. The program also includes field trips, guest speakers, a reading-incentive program and snack-time prayer.
The small classes provide one-on-one time to work on motor skills such as zipping, buttoning and tying, which will help the child become more independent and increase his or her self-esteem. Providers also reinforce peaceful play patterns and encourage problem solving to develop healthy peer relationships.
Stepping Stones Pre-school uses aspects of the Highscope curriculum along with following Indiana standards to ensure your child has all the needed tools to succeed in kindergarten and the years following. The 4-year-old class meets Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. The 3-year-old class has optional meetings of Monday and Wednesday or Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. Classes run from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.
The preschool also offers families extended hours of childcare. For more information, call Kelli Hubert at 836-4385 or Martha Thomas at 836-4254.
